Item Description on Invoice

    Item Description on Invoice

    When adding line items to an invoice I have the option of selected an item and there is a text box below it.   Can you explain what the text is for?  I assumed it was for a description on that lineitem, however it always resets itself... I don't understand how to enter a description for a lineitem.

    Pictoric,

    • The select menu is used if you want to use one of your pre-defined "stored invoice" items. You don't have to select anything from it if you want a custom invoice item.
    • The textbox is simply a description that will either be copied from the select menu, or you can enter your own text/

    You are allowed to select nothing from the select menu (the first item on the list, which is an empty entry), and manually enter a description in the texbox.

    Or, as another approach you could select something from the menu and then edit its description in the textbox.

    The textbox always resetting itself is a problem. If you are experiencing that are you using v2.3? If you continue to experience it please email us directly at support@dotnetinvoice.com.

    We are using 2.3.  If I select an item and enter a description the description is never stored in the database and is always reset to the text in the dropdown.   This I've just confirmed.

    Pictoric,

    I was able to duplicate the behavior you are experiencing.

    The intent of the stored invoice items is to provide a consistent description and cost that can be easily selected by the user. However, you're right - it should work the way you are describing and I am adding this to the issue tracker right now. I did find a workaround in the meantime.

    Once you've added an invoice item and selected a stored invoice item, modify the description and then click "add item." Another invoice item will appear above it, and the first description will be saved. Then you can delete the new invoice item.

    Thanks for letting us know about this issue. It will be fixed in the next release.

    I found another bug. After selecting one of the invoice items and saving the invoice I can no longer change the invoice item to another pre-determine item or custom item.. If I try to change that same invoice item it defaults to Web Maint (at least that is what it defaults in my system).  I can't actually reset the invoice item to be custom as everytime I try to save it, it defaults back to Web Maint...

    I appreciate your effort and communication with your product.

    I'm not able to reproduce this one. I can edit an existing invoice that's still pending and select a different stored invoice item and it saves. Are you able to reproduce this behavior on our demo site (http://v2demo.dotnetinvoice.com/admin/?
